Goodchat

United we stand

Americans are more divided than anytime in recent history. The number of Americans with very unfavorable opinions of the opposing party has more than doubled in the past 25 years. And about one-third of Americans believe the opposing party is threatening our nation’s well-being. (1)

Unless we start listening to people we disagree with, it’s going to get worse. Goodchat guides you through a fun, quick conversation with the other side that leads to understanding. Got 5 minutes for your country?

How it works

We drew on techniques that have been proven to spark positive conversations. The kind where you may not agree, but you walk away feeling like it was a good chat.

  1. Promise you’ll try to understand. If you can’t promise, you can’t participate. Believe it or not, it’s incredibly effective.
  2. Chat about commonalities. We’ll help you find something. Love dogs? Or football?
  3. Tell stories. People are much more likely to understand where you’re coming from.
  4. Down with knee jerk reaction. We help you ask follow up questions instead.
  5. It all comes down to values. We uncover them and help
    you connect.
  • The Promise

Start by making a simple promise to try to understand the other person.

  • About Yourself

Tell us a little about yourself so we can find someone with different views. No personal information required.

  • Start Chatting

Take a few minutes to get to know each other and find things in common.

  • A Good Question

We’ll give you a good question to discuss. You take turns listening to each other’s point of view, and then take a minute to discuss.

Who's behind this?

We’re a diverse group who believes in the power of compassion. We’re parents, we’re millennials, and we’re right in between. We’re from the east coast, the west coast and the middle of America. We’re writers and designers and coders and managers. We’re American.

We work at a company called Boldium. We have no connection to a political organization nor are we doing this to turn a profit. Call us idealistic. We hope good chats across America will make a difference.

Help America stand tall

It takes less than 10 minutes to have a good chat with a fellow American. Do your part to build bridges of understanding across America.
